This elegant piece of jewelry was surely worn by Tutankhamun during his lifetime. It shows the winged scarab as representing the morning sun god Khepri. Its significance goes far deeper, however, for the combined symbols of the sun disk, the beetle, and the three lines above a basket form the throne name of the king -- Nebkheperure -- and thus visibly integrate his person into the cyclical course of the sun.
