The Scarab beetle was considered to be the personification of the god Khepri. He was a sun god that was connected with resurrection. The insect itself pushes around a ball of dung with its babies inside. The Egyptians observed this natural phenomenon and associated the round ball of dung with the ball of the sun and so Khepri was born. The cobra, a protective deity, surrounds the scarab. The cobra is found on the crown of the King and is associated with Lower Egypt. The Lotus flowers are connected with rebirth and resurrection and Upper Egypt.
